Awarded to danes as well as foreigners, who have done an especial fearless act and/or a noteworthy deed.
The medal may be awarded posthumously and is then given to the next of kin.
If awarded twice a silver oak leaf device is added to the ribbon.
If awarded three times a gold oak leaf device is added to the ribbon.
