The upper grades of the Order is mostly awarded to Royals from other countries and to some heads of state.
The lower grades are mostly awarded to persons who have special ties to the official Denmark. For example the rank of “Knight of Dannebrog” is awarded to: Persons who have been in the parliament for 10 years and for public servants above paygrade 36.
